Abstract

THE APPROACH OF RELIEF BY GEOGRAPHY: AN ANALYSIS FROM TEXTBOOKS The knowledge of relief is demanded not only for the need to locomotion and occupation of the area by human beings, but also, for the landscape understanding in geography terms. Its understanding involves the comprehension of the landscape and through its study, it is possible to notice how other natural aspects - such as soil, climate, vegetation and hydrography inter-relate in the sculpturation of different forms of land surface and also, what these inter-relationships lead to the society. In order to be a contribution to the teaching of geomorphology, this work analyzes the content related to the relief in the geography textbooks approved by the national program of didactic book (“Programa Nacional do Livro Didático”- PNLD 2005). This analysis is based on thoughts about the meaning of relief in the geographical studies of different levels involved in its understanding, of the construction of concepts in the process of teaching-learning and others that support the contextualization of the relief in the geography under the light of the relationship between society and nature. Making a relief to be less abstract to the understanding of students is a challenge of the geomorphology teaching, which can offer important contributions to deal with the current environmental crisis in a more responsible and critical way.
