Natural phenomena are common themes in popular mythology. The experience of working with geomyths occurred on an artistic-cultural meeting, the 19th UFPR Winter Festival at Antonina (PR), carried out on 2009 July. The workshop has been idealized, elaborated and executed by PET-Geologia and extensionist fellows from the UFPR project named "Sala da Terra: geosciences education and daily society''. The workshop´s main issue was to present and to discuss basic geosciences concepts, having geomythology as the starting point. The workshop was based on didactic materials as 3D-models, brochures, audiovisual, as well as fieldwork activities. General concepts were introduced as slope stability, coastal dynamics, plate tectonics, volcanism and the building of Serra do Mar Mountains. To measure the experience, two tests pre and post workshop tests have been taken, besides and evaluation´s questionnaire. The results of the pre-test have shown the partial absence of geosciences subjects in basic schools. Issues of the pre-college curricula or with powerful media image had good scored. It could demonstrate that didactic materials, as 3D-models, the geomythological approach, as well as fieldwork activities, was very effective in promoting learning and retention of concepts.
